Hi everyone, I'm Cameron Vanzoost. I work as a freelance photographer, and have done work for magazines like GQ and Rolling Stone for most of my career. I started out doing shoots for NBC promotional shots while I was studying, but now I'm more into the magazine business. I have a few writers on staff at both magazines who call me in when they are doing interviews or what have you and need a photographer, and it is a nice way to make a living, if I do say so myself.
Most recently, I guess people would probably recognize me and my work from a calendar done in support of the (Red) campaign. Basically what was done was a series of photographs of famous people involved in the charity, and I took most of the photos, including the December shot that has everyone plus myself. The theme was Red, of course, and so they are black and white photographs with red accents here and there, and I really liked working on it. It was a great time, and I had fun with it all.
I don't really know what else to say; I'm a shy person in general, so this kind of a lot for me to be saying. I spend most days walking around the city to shoots, and tend to have my two year old nephew, Brady, in tow, since my sister works during the day and can't bring herself to have Brady looked after by some stranger. And I don't mind. I live in the village in a studio apartment with my Russian blue cat named Ianto. And I'm not generally this chatty in person, but I don't feel nearly as shy online as I do face to face. What else? I grew up here in New York, my father being a journalist and my mother a photographer. My older sister now works as an editor for Vanity Fair. We were all kind of in the print business, I guess. Maybe it's in my genes or something?
Anyway, yeah. That's all I can think of, but I very open to answering questions about myself, and I really hope that I get to know some of you and maybe even make a few good friends out of this experience. That's what I'm usually looking for in trying new things, anyway.
